Property Tax Exemptions

Are you taking advantage of the property tax savings available through Exemptions?  Homeowners qualify for a General Homestead Exemption if the property is owner-occupied, no application is required.  This is a savings of 6,000 off of the assessed value each year and is reflected on your tax bill.

Exemptions are also available for:

  • Seniors who are 65 and older
  • Disabled Veterans - Please note: The Governor has signed into law new legislation significantly expanding the Disabled Veterans' Exemption.
  • Returning Veterans
  • Persons with Disabilities
  • Home Improvements

If you are not currently receiving any of these exemptions and think you may qualify, please review the Exemptions Page to find out more!

The Will County Supervisor of Assessments will be at the Plainfield Township Admin Building on April 6, 2016 and May 18, 2016 from 10am to 2pm.  They will be assisting Disabled Veterans with applying for the newly expanded Disabled Veterans' Homestead Exemption.  Required documentation includes your DD-214 and letter from Veteran's Affairs stating your service-connected disability percentage.  Please call 815.740.4648 if you have questions about the event.
